What happens... (contains spoilers!)
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland begins with Alice idly passing by time next to her sister when she sees a White Rabbit, triggering her curiosity and leading her down a rabbit-hole into a fantastical world. Initially, she finds herself in a hall with many locked doors and after drinking a potion to shrink in size, she encounters numerous challenges trying to enter a beautiful garden. Subsequent events fluctuate her size further, and Alice cries a pool of tears which she later falls into. Here she meets various animals and engages in a bizarre Caucus-Race to dry off. Afterwards, the White Rabbit sends Alice on an errand, which culminates in her growing to an enormous size within his house, causing chaos. Her interaction with a Caterpillar offers guidance on controlling her size through eating parts of a mushroom, but not without difficulties. She then encounters the Duchess and the Cheshire Cat before attending an eternally-stuck tea party with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. Next, the Queen of Hearts introduces Alice to a violent croquet game with living pieces. The Queen's tyrannical nature becomes apparent as she meets the Mock Turtle and learns of his sorrowful story. A trial follows where the Knave of Hearts is unjustly accused of stealing tarts. The book culminates with Alice's own testimony which leads to a climactic confrontation that causes her to awaken from the dream-like sequence of events, safe by her sister's side.
