The chapter concludes the Time Traveller's recounting of his experiences, as the audience reacts with skepticism, and the Time Traveller performs an abrupt and final disappearing act.

In the aftermath of his story, the Time Traveller acknowledges the audience's skepticism and seemingly suggests they think of his tale as a lie or a work of fiction. The reactions of his audience are varied, with some showing contemplation, disbelief, and impatience. The medical man and psychologist examine the strange flowers the Time Traveller claims are from the future, and a discussion ensues about them. The Time Traveller becomes increasingly distressed about the reality of his experiences, prompting him to check the machine, which is still present and damaged, much to his and the narrative's observer's surprise. After returning inside, the Time Traveller, seemingly disheartened, leaves the room. The audience finds the machine and all evidence of the Time Traveller gone. The story's narrator decides to wait for his return, but three years have passed with no sign of the Time Traveller.
